Volcano Motion Lamps
A volcano motion lamp places the flow inside a column instead of a globe. Instead of round bubbles moving up and down, you see a slim vertical stream rising, splitting, and falling, resembling lava rather than the typical round-bubble effect. The lamp's shape makes this happen.
How the volcano effect works
The principle is just the same as in any other wax lamp, where heat coming from below makes wax float up, then cool off and sink down. The difference lies in the shape of the lamp. Because it has a narrow column, the wax forms a narrow stream, so it rises as a thin band rather than splitting into bigger round blobs. Some models add a coloured or textured base section to strengthen the illusion.
