Vintage-Style & Retro Motion Lamps
The lava lamp has one of the most recognisable silhouettes in home lighting: a tapered metal base, a rounded glass globe, and a pointed cap. That shape has barely changed since the sixties, which is why a retro-styled lamp reads as vintage even when it is brand new.
What makes a lava lamp vintage or retro
Four details carry the era. The base finish, usually a warm metallic such as brass, copper, or gold, as opposed to the black and chrome of today’s lamp bases. The cap shape, tall and tapered rather than squat. The colourway also includes the amber, orange, red, and yellow colour combinations that dominated the original decades. And the texture of the metalwork, often ridged or perforated rather than smooth.
